Sayalonga is a typical whitewashed village situated 38 kilometres east of Malaga and just 9 kilometres from the coast at Algarrobo Costa. It lies within the area of Axarquia, on the scenic Route of Sun and Wine, at an altitude of 355 metres and has a population of approximately 1,300.
Sayalonga has maintained an old world peacefulness and charm with the main plaza, Plaza de Don Rafael Alcoba, as its focal point surrounded by lilac flowering Jacaranda trees. The village has many amenities including bars and restaurants, shops, a doctors surgery, chemist, bank, post office and primary school.
The local ‘Loymerbus’ bus service from Canillas de Albaida and Cómpeta passes through the village, along the coast and onto Málaga. It is only fifteen minutes drive to the coastal beaches, fifteen minutes to the nearest marina at Caleta de Velez and the golf course at Baviera Golf. The journey by car to Malaga airport is only 45 minutes.
